Life on the Machair – A New Chapter In the Outer Hebrides

After many years living and photographing the wild landscapes of Orkney, I’m beginning a new adventure in the Outer Hebrides. I’ll soon be living on the Isle of Lewis — right on the Machair, one of Scotland’s most remarkable natural environments.

The Machair is a rare and beautiful coastal grassland found only along the western shores of the Western Isles, In summer, it bursts into colour with wildflowers and orchids, with the sound of seabirds and the Atlantic wind never far away. It’s a landscape shaped by the sea, the sand, and generations of crofting — a perfect blend of nature and old Scottish traditions.

To live on the Machair is to live close to the elements: the ever-changing light, the rolling surf, and the big skies that seem to stretch forever. For a professional photographer, it’s a dream come true — every sunrise / sunset and storm brings a new story to capture for my gallery for my viewers.

This move to Lewis / Harris feels like the right step forward — a chance to continue and expand my photography, to share the beauty of this unique place through my lens, and to start a new chapter surrounded by the wild heart of the Outer Hebrides.

Stay tuned for new photos and videos as I begin this next journey living on the Machair In the western Isles of Scotland.

Many thanks for your support
