Light Of Lewis Photography

James Wyllie is a Scottish landscape photographer and professional drone pilot whose work is deeply connected to the wild and remote landscapes of northern Scotland.

A former Royal Marine, James developed a lifelong respect for the sea, remote places, and the resilience required to live and work within them. That same spirit now shapes his photography.

Now based on the Isle of Lewis, his home borders the machair and a nature reserve, providing daily inspiration for his photography. From prehistoric standing stones to Atlantic storms rolling in across the Hebrides, James continues to document the character and history of Scotland’s most remote places.

James shares his work through his website, Light of Lewis Photography, where he presents landscape and aerial imagery capturing the unique light, history, and atmosphere of the Outer Hebrides.

Through his photography and film work, he also supports ex-military veterans through the charity Combat Stress, using the Scottish landscapes & wildlife as a way to reconnect with nature, reflection, and healing.

James continues his photography journey to this present day, alongside his beloved Border Collie (Sonny) who is his trusting travel companion.

Reason for this? “Combat Stress” has helped James Wyllie over the years after serving in the UK Armed Forces. They have helped myself transition back into civilian life over the years & I feel like I should be giving something back by helping other veterans who suffer from PTSD (Giving back helps me stay positive & focused. Coming out of the Military can be a very daunting experience, especially when suffering from PTSD & feeling Isolated…..Veterans should always be our first priority!
